When Mike yelled at her, "Stop hugging that damn cat, it'll never love you like I do!" while she held Cinnamon close and kissed his nose, his purrs reverberating against her chest, he sealed his fate.

Anyone that jealous of her affection, anyone that hateful towards Cinnamon, wasn't someone she could trust or love, definitely a Mr Wrong.

When Ben first came to her house and greeted Cinnamon with a smile, and Cinnamon pawed at him, wanting to be picked up, she smiled as Ben scooped up the cat and cooed at him; this one might be Mr Right.

Posted in advance as at present you cannot schedule a DW entry!
For this month I'm featuring some older works newcomers haven't seen and others might not remember. I'd love to see others share their past work; there's nothing wrong with celebrating earlier creations any more than there is re-reading a favourite book or re-watching a film!

Merry Christmas to those celebrating today!

Romaine watched El whisk the powdered drinking chocolate into the saucepan full of hot milk, adding a pinch of cinnamon and another of nutmeg. When she was satisfied, she poured the mixture into the mugs, filling them about half-way. She added a generous amount of brandy, some marshmallows, topped the mugs with a ton of whipped cream – he now realised why she'd purchased four cans - and finished the whole thing off with chocolate sprinkles.

"Hot chocolate," El said, beaming, offering him a mug.

"Well, somewhere under all that," Romaine said, grateful for the long-handled spoon she passed to him.

For the [community profile] allbingo “meet-ugly” prompt “I thought you were my ex so I yelled at you in public. You’re not them”.
Thomas mistakes graphic designer Eddie for his asshole ex, Finn. Luckily, Eddie is more than understanding.

It had been a bad break-up and Thomas was still smarting from it so when he saw Finn, tall red-headed asshole, perusing the second-hand bookstall in the busy market, he couldn’t help himself.

“Thought you were going off to London, you wanker!” Thomas railed, hands balled into fists. “Going to get away from me and my issues! By screwing Gary, no doubt! You scumbag!”

Finn glanced over his shoulder but, to Thomas’s horror, it was not Finn’s face regarding him with puzzlement. Same build, similar long woollen grey coat, but this man was a little older with sea green eyes. Just as, if not more handsome than Finn. But absolutely not Finn.

The blood drained from Thomas’s face. If only the earth would open up and swallow him.

“I’m sorry?” the stranger asked.

“No. I’m sorry. I thought you were someone else.” Since when had Finn carried a laptop bag!

“Some scumbag wanker?”

Thomas nodded, numb. “My ex,” he said by way of explanation. The stranger laughed.

“Well hopefully I’m not a scumbag. Excuse me a moment.” He picked up a book, an action thriller, and handed over cash to the stallholder.

Thomas was slinking away when the stranger, slipping the book into a voluminous inside pocket, said, “I’m Eddie.”

“Thomas.” He shook the proffered hand.

“I’ve got forty five minutes before my train,” Eddie said. “Would you like to get a coffee? I’d like the company.”

Thomas shrugged. He wouldn’t mind sitting down and gathering himself after his outburst. “I guess so.”

"He knows this gentle courtship might be all they'll ever have"

The writer's block persists so I will share an older ficlet, never before posted here.
Nikolai is a vampire (or close enough) and Cecilia the mortal he has his eye on, though he wonders if he should or will make her a vampire too.

Pre-canon for a longer work I've put aside for some years now, in which Nikolai and his bride have spent years together and face new challenges in the modern world.

Originally for the writerverse prompt "write a fic that ends with the line In that moment, it's enough"

aura-innonce

Innocence

She is so very young – perhaps not so much by mortal standards, but certainly by his. Innocent, definitely. Not a beauty to most eyes, but he finds her attractive. Besides it's not just the physical that Nikolai is drawn to and it never has been.

She no longer thinks of him as a demon, though he's not yet told her exactly what he is. He has told her stories though, folklore and mythology, priming her in case he should want to reveal more of his nature.

He's had mortal companions, most long gone by now, and friendships with others like him. He's never made another like himself, never Changed anyone. He's thought about it, thought that if he did, he wouldn't be alone.

If he chose to, he could make this Cecilia like him. Yet deep down he knows that wouldn't guarantee she'd stay with him. Nor would he do it without her consent, and she's not ready to give him permission. She couldn't yet understand what she'd be consenting to.

If he's honest, he's not ready to explain. Part of him fears she'll turn on him if he tells her the whole truth of what he is. Part of him savours her innocence- he wants to enjoy those moments with her, to see the world through her eyes for a little longer.

He kneels at her feet, the same as he does almost every day now, while she embroiders, and begins another tale. She listens, a smile on her face, and it warms his heart to see her enjoyment.

He knows this gentle courtship might be all they'll ever have. In that moment, it's enough.

Title: weathering the storm
Prompt: For the [livejournal.com profile] writerverse prompt 'calm the storm'
Summary: Poem. He's there through good and bad times
Warnings: Strong emotional themes, hinted depression/mental anguish

(This is a m/f piece but I see no reason the sentiment wouldn't work just as well for a f/m, m/m, or f/f pairing.)

Title: A Matter of Perspective
Pairing/Characters: Original characters, gen
Rating: Mature
Word Count: 795
Prompt: For [livejournal.com profile] mmom and my solo celebration prompt "I only make love to myself"
Summary: An imposter king comforts a woman, kin to the man he is betrothed to. She explains she is not the "harlot" some call her. In fact to lie with a man will rob her of her gift – or curse, as others name it. That does not mean she is deprived of worldly pleasures, not even "release".
Content Notes: No standard warnings apply. No sexual content but contains discussions around sex, virginity, masturbation, and same gender relationships.
Author Notes: This short piece takes place in a fantasy world I am hoping to write more about in the future. I'm still working out many of the details but I hope this snippet is intriguing.

They say opposites attract
And we're so different that's a fact

I doubted its veracity
Until we met and you smiled at me

I am the storm and you the calm
You are night and I the dawn

Building trust was quite the endeavour
But now this partnership will last forever

It's good to know, you might say divine
That I've got your back, and you've got mine
